This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join one of Europe’s leading meat processing companies. The Operations Manager based at Cross Hands, Llanelli, Carmarthen is accountable for leading an area of responsibility to achieve the performance of the factory ensuring operational effectiveness is maximized, ensuring KPIs are met, high technical standards are maintained, and quality standards are achieved, through the development of people, processes and systems.

Responsibilities

  • To agree with the Site Operations Manager a workable strategy and to cascade this to the production teams accordingly.
  • To take accountability for ensuring that orders placed are produced in full and dispatched on time to the required quality standard and customer specification whilst maintaining a controlled cost base to deliver profits.
  • To ensure that site business objectives and performance targets are met and to agree operational KPIs to ensure that the site meets production efficiency, quality and yield targets.
  • To ensure regular and ongoing analysis of results to identify performance shortfalls and implement remedial plans as required.
  • To take accountability for the day to day managing of controllable overheads in terms of permanent and temporary labour costs, communicating the full picture to the Site Director, advising of risks or opportunities for savings as a matter of course.
  • To remain up to date with all food safety legislation and key technical requirements, driving total compliance throughout the factory areas and personnel deployed therein, with a particular focus on HACCP.
  • To manage and oversee the communication process on a weekly and daily basis, thus ensuring all employees involved within production understand the targets and challenges for the day and remain fully informed on a ‘to the minute’ basis.
  • Continually drive improvements in processes and practices embracing all lean manufacturing principles.
  • To build a client focused culture thereby ensuring that the site and employees recognise and respond to customer needs and a policy of improvement is sought.
  • To develop a leadership style that encourages engagement and empowerment with the aim of establishing a high performing team and individual culture underpinned by performance management that leads into robust succession planning.
  • To manage all related HR processes and activities in conjunction with HR site support with the aim of building fair, equitable and harmonious industrial relations both on an individual and collective basis.
  • To drive health and safety standards with the aim of actively driving best practice and proactively building a health and safety focused culture on site, adhering to statutory and company processes.
  • To proactively prepare for planned customer visits and participate in all such visits whether from government bodies or clients, always presenting the company in the best professional manner with a total focus on compliance.

Qualifications

  • Someone who has prior experience at management level within a fast paced food manufacturing facility.
  • Someone who demonstrates an understanding of operating with integrity, of quality processes and systems and has high standards of compliance and quality.
  • Ideally with a Food Safety Level 3 qualification.
  • Someone who demonstrates financial understanding and business acumen.
  • Someone who can maintain a strong focus on needs of the customer and consumer together with a strong understanding of the processes and procedures needed to be implemented to achieve these needs.
  • Someone who is knowledgeable and trained in people management practices including investigations, disciplinary and grievance procedures, performance management and recruitment & selection processes.
  • Oversees compliance whilst demonstrating an understanding and awareness of HSE requirements.
  • Someone who is IOSH trained and possesses relevant IT literacy.
