The predicted salary is between 26500 - 27200 £ per year.

Working hours: 40 per week Monday to Friday 6am to 3pm. Pay: Dependent on experience, circa £12.71 to £13.08 per hour.

We are recruiting for a Lairage Operative to join an industry leader that provides opportunities for training and progression to the right candidates. You will be working in the lairage of a meat processing plant in one of Europe's leading food companies; suppliers of choice to a range of leading local, national and international supermarket, foodservice and manufacturing businesses exporting to over 50 countries worldwide.

The primary role of the Lairage Operative is to handle the movement of livestock from unloading through the lairage to slaughter whilst ensuring Animal Welfare Standards at all times.

Responsibilities:
  • To ensure that all deliveries are counted, and discrepancies raised.
  • To ensure that all required paperwork is completed and correct.
  • To ensure that the deliveries are penned correctly.
  • To ensure the animals are approved as fit for slaughter by the site vet.
  • To ensure that lairage is kept clean and tidy.
  • Ensure all water troughs are in working order and adequate feed is provided for animals overnight.
  • Conduct Animal Transportation Audits.
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Understanding of The Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing (England) Regulations (WATOK) is highly advantageous.
  • Previous experience of working in food manufacturing or in a farm environment within the lairage, or at senior operative level is advantageous.
  • IT literate with good level of experience of MS Office and other packages.
  • Strong attention to detail and driven to achieve high standards.
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask and remain calm under pressure, and to strict deadlines.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to speak, read and write in English clearly and accurately is essential.
  • Proactive approach to work, anticipating potential issues and dealing with them effectively.
