We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Additional Support for Learning teacher to join our Primary Inclusion Team within the Supporting Learners Service in the East of the authority. This post is 1fte temporary until August 2026. Applications for all or part of these hours will be considered.

The successful candidate will work on an outreach basis in schools across the East supporting staff in identifying and assessing barriers to learning, and managing challenging behaviours through individualised teaching support, targeted interventions, observations, advice and guidance, mentoring and training. In addition to the outreach role described above, the successful candidate will be timetabled to teach in the Inclusion Base in Dumfries.

The postholder will be required to work in partnership with appropriate agencies and parents to support pupil needs. Candidates must have extended teaching experience and be able to demonstrate experience of working with pupils with an additional support need.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland in the appropriate sector. This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
