We have a 36-hour vacancy for an Occupational Therapist (OT) based in Wigtownshire. The OT will work with and be in partnership with people primarily with disabilities and their informal carers, and take forward recommendations to meet need, which will include assistive equipment and adaptations. The post holder will take forward IMA (Independent Mobility assessments).

The OT will be based within social work services as well as supporting a multidisciplinary Home Team which includes other Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Social Workers, Community Nursing, Public Health Improvement workers, and the extended team of colleagues in Housing, Care and Repair and other agencies.

We are looking for a registered practitioner with a knowledge of health and social care which involves the use of assistive equipment and experience of working in a team setting. You will have effective communication and computer skills, as well as good organisational skills and will work towards understanding of legislation underpinning the provision of services to disabled people.

Regular Professional supervision will be in place along with performance and development reviews, as well as the opportunity to further develop skills and experience. A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
