Job Description

Social Worker (Fixed Term)

Stranraer/West

£42,894 – £45,990

Justice Social Work are looking to recruit one social worker post to the West Community Team on a fixed term basis of up to 12 months. This post is based in Stranraer however covers the West of the region including Stranraer/Rhins, Newton Stewart/Machars and the Stewartry. There would be an expectation that the successful candidate would spend a minimum of one day per week in the Stranraer office. The successful candidate would also be able to use other social work buildings throughout the West of the region. The Council\’s Smarter Working Policy is effective for this post.

Justice Social Work provides a social work service to those appearing before the criminal courts, to those who have offended and who are subject to supervision in the community, and to those in prison. As part of the Social Work Department we are partners in the protection of children and vulnerable adults.

Our team is committed to high professional standards of practice and continuous development; hence the requirement to replace staff developing their careers. Significant progress has been made in the professional areas of assessment and in the delivery of change programmes that challenge offending behaviour and support change. In addition we are partners in the management of high risk offenders through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. Responsible to the Senior Social Worker, you will be a member of a team that is motivated by these changes.

We wish to recruit to the position of social worker covering the core duties of Justice Social Work, namely the provision of a social work service to the Courts, including the preparation of Court Reports and undertaking associated risk assessments, the supervision of offenders on statutory orders, and the delivery of personal change initiatives. You will require to have good personal and professional skills and an ability to relate effectively to service users, their families, and to a range of other agencies.

A Dip SW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential. You must also be registered with the SSSC or be in the process of registration and willing to maintain registered status. You will have a demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to Justice Social Work.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
