You will work 7.5 hours per week (1.30 hours daily – 8.30am - 9.15am, and 2.30pm - 3.15pm), 38 weeks per year.

You will assist school pupils in crossing a potentially busy highway, undertake duties concerned with the safe passage of school children and other pedestrians across roads to and from school. For example:

  • Control and direction of traffic at crossing areas
  • Operation of hazard warning signs
  • Identification of any roadside hazards

The control of the behaviour of children at crossing areas is a major requirement of the job. The post will involve working in all weather conditions.

The post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. As from 28 February 2011, preferred candidates are required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries & Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
