An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lifelong Learning Assistant to play a key role in the delivery of evidence-based parenting programmes across Dumfries and Galloway. The post will focus on delivering high-quality, evidence-informed approaches such as Peep Learning Together, Circle of Security, Triple P, or other agreed evidence-based parenting models, supporting improved outcomes for children, young people and families.

This role is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and directly contributes to GIRFEC, Whole Family Wellbeing, and Tackling Child Poverty priorities by strengthening family relationships, building parental confidence, and supporting early intervention and prevention. Delivery will be targeted towards families experiencing disadvantage, inequality, or additional support needs, in line with funder and service objectives.

The postholder will plan, deliver and support parenting programmes, working in partnership with community organisations, third sector partners, early years settings, schools and other services to ensure accessible, responsive provision that meets identified local need. You will contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting activity to evidence outcomes and demonstrate impact in line with external funding requirements.

The role will include evening and weekend work and requires a full UK driving licence.

You will have:

  • Experience of working in Family Learning, Adult Learning, or Community Learning and Development, with a strong focus on parenting and family support
  • Experience of delivering evidence based parenting sessions, developing plans, and engaging families in supportive, strengths-based ways
  • An understanding of evidence-based practice and the importance of fidelity, quality assurance and outcome measurement
  • Experience of partnership working and contributing to service self-evaluation and continuous improvement

Requirements

To be considered for this post you should:

  • Be educated to HNC / SVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate relevant continuing professional development, particularly in parenting, family learning or early intervention
  • Have education and training that supports the delivery of evidence-based parenting and lifelong learning programmes
  • Be a full or associate member of the CLD Standards Council, or be willing to become a member
  • A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is fixed term for up to 23 months. This post may be suitable for attachment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post. This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
