Teacher British Sign Language (0.8FTE) (Temporary) — Langholm Academy 2-18 School

Dumfries and Galloway's approach to education combines traditional values with 21st century thinking. We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of British Sign Language with a vision and passion for teaching and learning. This post provides an opportunity to develop our culture of sharing and learning across the cluster.

Langholm 2-18 school serves 250 pupils in the secondary, 170 in the primary and 25 in the nursery. The schools are managed by one Headteacher, with an extended team of Depute Headteachers and Principal Teachers. Our core purpose is to ensure every child reaches their full potential and is prepared to succeed in learning, life and work in the 21st century. We are an inclusive school with a flexible curriculum and strong community partnerships.

We are seeking to appoint a temporary Teacher of British Sign Language for up to 12 months. This post forms part of Langholm 2-18 school's delivery of BGE and Senior Phase as appropriate to meet the needs of our learners. This position may be suitable for a Secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post on a secondment basis.

Requirements

  • Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in the appropriate sector.
  • This post is regulated work with vulnerable children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
  • Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years will be required to provide a completed police record check from the authorities in the country or countries of residence, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
