An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen within the Council’s Environment Team for the position of SCAMP Coastal Infrastructure Coordinator.

SCAMP - Landscape Connections is a seascape-scale nature restoration project covering 210 miles of the North Solway Coast and its shallow marine environment in Dumfries and Galloway. This is an incredible chance to make a lasting positive impact on the future health of the Solway seascape and influence how we respond to the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

You’ll take the lead to develop the proposals for coastal access and gateway infrastructure along the north Solway coast. If you have an interest in public access to the countryside, are a good communicator with a proven track record in solving problems and dealing with people, this may be the ideal opportunity for you. You’ll make full use of your skills to develop and deliver coastal access infrastructure as part of the Solway Coast and Marine Project (SCAMP) Landscape Connections.

You’ll have a relevant qualification and experience and have a confident, diplomatic and persuasive personality to negotiate with, present to and influence a range of different people. You’ll also need to be a quick learner. This role demands good communication skills, self-motivation and flexibility. By joining our busy and dedicated team, you will contribute to developing a stage 2 National Lottery Heritage Fund application to the Landscape Connections programme.

The successful candidate will be based in the Environment Team, based at Kirkbank House in Dumfries with home working, but will also need to visit locations throughout Dumfries and Galloway. Applications are invited for the above posts from suitably qualified persons, with a minimum of an HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and suitable experience. Training and support will be provided.

Good written and oral communication skills are essential requirements, as are ICT skills, familiarity with the use of maps and access to transport. The post may be suitable for job share. A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
