The predicted salary is between 18393 - 19535 £ per year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Learning Assistant based within the Moffat Academy Cluster within Moffat Primary Nursery for 27.5 hours per week up to 1 July 2026. This position is term time over 39 weeks per year. As this post is based in the ELC sector, the preferred candidate must either be registered with SSSC or register within 3 months of commencing employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Build strong and trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Help them take part in lessons, encourage independence (including personal care), support them in learning new skills, and help them make friends.
  • Ensure they feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.
  • Support children and young people with additional support needs to help them overcome barriers to learning and enable them to reach their full potential, either in Learning Centres or mainstream classes.
  • Work within other settings for the duration of this appointment as required.

Requirements:

  • Educated to SCQF Level 4 (e.g. Standard Grade General, National 4) or equivalent, including Numeracy and Literacy or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people.
  • Experience of working with children/young people with additional support needs would be advantageous.
  • A willingness to undertake training as part of our induction and professional development programmes.

These posts are considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have resided outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
