We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and values-driven leader to fulfil a strategic leadership role within Dumfries and Galloway Council. The Head of Education Resources is responsible for the people and budgets for our 114 schools, 15 learning centres and 40 early years settings across Dumfries and Galloway. The role is focused on providing leadership and direction for our school leaders; in modelling the values we expect to see, being responsible for the professional standards of our staff, ensuring our school estate and technology are fit for the future and our strategic financial management and devolved school management arrangements are robust.
As a leader within the Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Directorate, you will work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director, Assistant Director Schools and Head of Thriving Communities. Your role will be to directly manage and influence headteachers and quality improvement managers to improve outcomes for children and families. You will have a key role in fostering positive employee relations and a culture of engagement and continuous improvement.
As a member of the Council’s Management team, you will work with other Chief Officers and Elected Members to provide strategic direction to address the challenges faced by the Council. You will provide visible leadership to deliver programmes of change in effort to meet the needs of communities and to support the financial stability of the Council.
We are seeking an astute, values-driven leader with depth of experience in educational, digital or financial leadership and a track record of sustained success. Essential qualities include being a first-class communicator and a natural relationship manager, with an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment. A strategic approach and vision to deliver change, service improvement, collaborative, whole-systems partnership working, financial planning and people leadership skills together with a strong customer focus is essential.
