Are you passionate about providing high quality swimming tuition and looking for a new challenge? Swim teaching is a highly rewarding role, teaching an important life skill to our customers. We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and self‑motivated Swimming Teachers, who will work on a Casual basis, as and when required, to cover any annual leave or sickness delivering our Learn to Swim Scheme and Curriculum Swimming programme.

Working at DG1, you will be responsible for instructing swimming lessons and assisting with the administration of our swimming programmes. Instruction will take place during the daytime, evenings and weekends. You will ideally possess a Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ), or equivalent. If you do not currently have this qualification for successful candidates after interview, we would provide you with the opportunity to gain the qualification. So we do encourage applications from those with a genuine interest in swimming teaching. Further details about the course can be given on enquiry.

You will have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, reliable and have experience of teaching children and/or adults. You will also have experience of writing and following lesson plans and the ability to work with varying abilities of swimmers. You must have excellent customer care skills. Ideally you will have an understanding of Child Protection. A First Aid Certificate and knowledge of Health and Safety are desirable.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
