This is a time of significant change for the Social Work Service in Dumfries & Galloway, as well as for the Health & Social Care sector generally. This post offers real opportunities to contribute to service delivery and development within Home Teams Social Work.

In this post you will be required to work 36 hours per week across 5 days (Monday – Friday) within Rhins/Machars Home Team Social Work. This post is fixed term for up to 12 months to cover a maternity leave. This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

Your primary responsibility will be to assess the needs of and risks to service users living in the community. You will be an integral member of the Rhins and Machars Home Teams, where you will work in partnership with colleagues from Adult Social Work, Adult Community Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Public Health Improvement and Patient Flow.

You will need to be able to work under your own initiative and prioritise your work accordingly. Experience of working in a health and social services setting is essential. You will have knowledge of the major themes which are relevant to health and social work services, and an awareness of the functional impact of old age, ill health and disability. You will be expected to practice in accordance with legislation, in particular the Social Care (Self Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 and the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, in addition to other relevant social work legislation.

You will require to have excellent communication, assessment, analytical and co-ordination skills. You will need to prepare assessments of need and risk and have the ability to prepare plans that flow from these. You will be committed to evidence based practice and you will receive good support, regular supervision and opportunities for development.

A Dip/SW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Social Services Council. A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence, consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
