We’re now looking for a Building Facilities Assistant (also known as School Janitor) to join our friendly, supportive team at Newington Primary. This is an excellent opportunity if you’re seeking term-time, family-friendly work in a role where your contribution is genuinely valued.

About the role:

You’ll be part of a dynamic, customer-facing facilities team, providing essential janitorial and cleaning support to help keep the school safe, clean and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Your duties will include:

  • Carrying out general cleaning and janitorial tasks to a high standard
  • Supporting daily building safety checks and health & safety procedures
  • Assisting the Lead Occupier with safe operation of the premises
  • Supporting energy efficiency and responsible building usage
  • Liaising professionally with all staff and service users

You’ll work both independently and as part of a small team, using a proactive, organised, and methodical approach.

Working Hours:

You will be required to work 22.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. 4.5h a day Monday to Friday.

Requirements:

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
