AIMS Project Technical Officer (2) (18/489) (Fixed Term)

Location: Dumfries and Galloway College

Salary: £41,238 – £44,223

We are recruiting for a Technical Officer (TO) to join the AIMS Project team based at Dumfries and Galloway College, Crichton Campus.

The role involves helping to enhance the skills of local people and fostering innovation in local businesses through manufacturing projects, approaches, and training. The primary responsibility is to deliver the technical aspects of the AIMS project, collaborating with key partners and stakeholders.

The AIMS project focuses on the following themes:

  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Computer Programming
  • CNC Machining
  • Collaborative and Autonomous Robots
  • Welding

Applicants should have strong expertise in at least one of these themes and some competence in another. Training will be provided. Experience or links to local industry are desirable.

An essential requirement is a current driving licence. Consideration will be given to applicants with disabilities if alternative transport can be arranged.

This is a fixed-term role for up to 12 months. It may be suitable for attachment, with prior approval from your line manager.

You will work within a small team using state-of-the-art equipment at Dumfries and Galloway College, with potential travel to various sites across the region.

About the AIMS Project

The project supports businesses and individuals in Dumfries and Galloway, driven by Industry 4.0, focusing on automation and modern manufacturing technologies.

The team provides R&D, reverse engineering, additive and subtractive manufacturing, fabrication, robotic automation, and computer science. They also deliver practical training and courses, from introductory sessions to bespoke skills development, to support the local economy.

Additional Support and Training

AIMS helps businesses innovate through prototyping, product development, and process improvement, offering training on CNC, 3D printing, robotics, and automation. It supports all business sizes in the region.

It also offers courses for individuals, including adults, young people, school leavers, job seekers, students, sole traders, and entrepreneurs, to acquire new skills and qualifications. The partnership with the Dumfries and Galloway Local Employability and Skills Partnership facilitates additional support options.
