We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team.
This is a broad, operational role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, evolving environment where you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function while contributing to financial reporting, controls, budgeting, cash management, and process improvements.

- KEY DUTIES
- Prepare for review monthly management accounts with supporting analysis and commentary.
- Maintain accurate general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare statutory accounts and support the annual audit.
- Ensure compliance with UK GAAP (FRS 102) and applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain strong financial controls and accounting policies.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and accounting for capitalised development costs where appropriate.
- Prepare payroll journals and liaise with outsourced payroll providers.
- Manage employee expenses and company credit card reconciliations.
- Oversee banking activities and cash management.
- Prepare and submit for review UK VAT returns.
- Prepare and submit for review R&D tax relief claims, working with external advisers.
- Support compliance with HMRC and Companies House requirements.
- Assist with corporation tax reporting and other statutory filings.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
- Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
- Support grant reporting and compliance for government-funded projects.
- Develop and improve finance processes and internal controls.
- Support implementation and optimisation of finance systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate routine processes and improve reporting efficiency.
- Maintain documentation of finance procedures and policies.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, HR, and executive leadership.
- Partner with budget holders to monitor expenditure and provide financial insight.
- Support due diligence activities for future fundraising and strategic transactions.
Experience
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
- 5+ years' accounting experience, ideally including experience within a high-growth technology, semiconductor, engineering, or venture-backed business.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge under UK GAAP (FRS 102).
- Experience preparing management accounts and statutory financial statements.
- Hands‑on experience managing month‑end close and day‑to‑day accounting operations.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
- Experience managing VAT and working with external auditors.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills with both finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
- Desired Skills
- Experience in a pre‑revenue or venture‑backed start‑up or scale‑up.
- Experience within semiconductor, electronics, hardware, manufacturing, or deep technology sectors.
- Experience accounting for R&D tax credits.
- Experience with ERP or cloud accounting systems such as Xero, Net Suite, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or SAP Business One.
- Experience supporting fundraising, investor reporting, or due diligence activities.
