SummaryA Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician is a competent, skilled mechanic in all aspects of nuclear plant mechanical maintenance. Work performed requires a broad knowledge of plant mechanical maintenance fundamentals and ability to function as part of a team while performing high quality preventive and corrective maintenance on nuclear plant equipment to maintain optimum levels of equipment reliability. Work activities include performing disassembly/reassembly of large steam turbines, electrical generators, and other plant equipment, as well as rigging and crane operation activities.
Basic Qualifications- Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician I: High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED), Valid driver’s license.
- Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician II: High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED), Valid driver’s license, One and one-half (1½) years of directly related experience.
- Two-year technical school degree, or equivalent experience or training (e.g., military).
- Prior experience in rigging and lifting.
- Possess ACAD Accredited Program Qualification to operate Cab Operated Polar or Gantry Cranes to perform NUREG-0612 lifts in accordance with site specific load path procedures.
- CNC machining skills and experience.
- Basic understanding of power tool operation and precision tool usage.
- Demonstrated diagnostic and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency utilizing advanced computer skills.
- Demonstrated experience with, and support of, following safety processes administrative procedures and technical procedures.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
- Demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes, regulations, responsibilities, and work environments.
- Prior nuclear power plant experience.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- This role requires the use of weight rated equipment, with max ratings ranging from 275lbs to 325lbs, in order to meet the essential functions of the job.
- Requires frequent travel to support Duke Nuclear Fleet maintenance outages and maintenance activities.
- Candidate required to have basic technical writing skills as well as basic computer skills.
- Obtain and Maintain qualifications necessary to disassemble and reassemble large steam turbines and electrical generators.
- Ability to successfully pass the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) test.
- Ability to successfully pass basic Maintenance Training.
- Ability to gain and maintain nuclear access.
- Respirator Clearance/SCBA.
- Mandatory hearing protection program.
- Nuclear Pre-Access Drug Screen.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Working various shifts, extended hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and be on-call to support plant needs.
- Continuous training and ongoing successful testing is required.
- Working in extreme temperatures (hot/cold).
- Climbing ladders and stairs and working at elevated heights.
- Physical exertion applicable to power plant maintenance such as standing, kneeling, crawling, walking, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
