Consider joining the Duke Energy team, where you\’ll find a friendly work environment, opportunities for growth and development, recognition for your work, and competitive pay and benefits.**Armed Nuclear Security Officer**The Armed Nuclear Security Officer is responsible for providing physical protection of the nuclear power plant/facility and public against radiological sabotage, through compliance with all NRC security requirements as described in applicable Codes of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 73) and other associated relevant commitments (Physical Security Plan, Safeguards Contingency Plan, and Training and Qualification Plan).As directed, Security Officers perform activities per plant/facility security procedures to provide physical protection of the facility, including: personnel and vehicle searches; surveillance and foot/vehicle patrols in the owner controlled, protected and vital areas of the site; and armed response if needed. Other duties include: assisting other site organizations (e.g. Operations, Maintenance, and Facilities) by providing security support as described in established procedures; testing security equipment; and accounting for security keys and equipment.The Armed Nuclear Security Officer, in addition to having the appropriate technical and tactical mindset, must be able to instill public and regulatory confidence in this role, and maintain necessary skills and qualifications.Summary of routine tasks: • Conduct personnel and vehicle searches prior to allowing access to the owner controlled and protected areas. • Respond to and evaluate protected and vital area alarms. • Respond to contingency events. • Assist in testing as described in established procedures. The successful candidate must be able to complete and pass the following requirements: • Criminal background investigation • Education and employment history verification • Credit Check • Radiation Worker Training and Plant Access/Fitness For Duty Training • Nuclear pre-access drug and alcohol screening • Medical examination for armed security officers • Clinical assessment (IMP Critical Group) • Respiratory physical • Nuclear Security Officer Training • Weapons qualifications The Armed Nuclear Security Officer must maintain skills and knowledge associated with security posts, responses, and contingencies: • Maintain qualifications for Armed Responder and Armed Security Officer required to implement the site defensive strategy. • Maintain physical fitness and firearms qualifications • Maintain security clearance **Working Conditions*** Be available for overtime work* Shift work to include weekends and nights* General nuclear power plant conditions of high temperature and noise* Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces* Ability to carry all assigned duty gear* Normal office and field environment to include all weather conditions* Uniform required* Support site emergencies**Basic Qualifications*** High school diploma or equivalent**Desired Qualifications*** Must be 21 years of age – Required* Associate degree* Currently hold Nuclear Access* Must currently hold State certification for armed security officer for North Carolina* Possess a valid driver\’s license – Required* Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing* Experience in high value/risk industrial or infrastructure security, or related field i.e.- civilian law enforcement / military service* Priority consideration will be given to those currently working as a fully trained and qualified armed responder in accordance with TG-SY-BNP-0530 (BNP task guide).****Travel Requirements****5-15%### Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable)No### Represented/Union PositionNo### Visa Sponsored PositionNo### Please note that in order to be considered for this position, you must possess all of the basic/required qualifications. #J-18808-Ljbffr
