Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for pitched and flat roofing operatives based in Darlington. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining pitched and flat roofs on various types of buildings, following project specifications and safety regulations. Day-to-day tasks include preparing work areas, handling roofing materials, fitting waterproofing systems, installing insulation, and carrying out carpentry-related roof structures as required. Operatives will work at height using appropriate equipment, inspect completed work for quality and safety, and collaborate closely with site supervisors and other trades. The position may also involve assisting with site clean-up, material handling, and adherence to health and safety standards on every project.

Qualifications

• Practical roofing skills with experience in working on pitched and flat roofs and an understanding of different roofing systems and materials.
• Competence in carpentry related to roof structures, including basic timber work and installation of roof supports.
• Knowledge of insulation techniques and materials to ensure energy-efficient and compliant roof installations.
• Experience with waterproofing methods to provide durable, weather-resistant roofing solutions.
• Ability to work safely at height, including use of ladders, scaffolding, and fall protection equipment.
• Strong awareness of construction site health and safety practices and willingness to follow company procedures and regulations.
• Good teamwork, communication, and reliability, with the ability to follow instructions and work to deadlines.
• Previous experience as a roofing operative or in a similar construction role; relevant trade qualifications or certifications are an advantage.
• Physical fitness appropriate for manual labor, including lifting materials and working in varying weather conditions.
• Driver’s license and reliable transport to Darlington and surrounding sites preferred.
