The apprentice will support machine shop and quality operations by working from engineering drawings and specifications to manufacture and inspect components. The role involves operating manual machining equipment, using precision measuring tools, and ensuring quality, traceability, and compliance with company procedures.
- Carry out manual milling and turning operations in line with drawings and specifications.
- Support machine shop and quality activities as part of the production team.
- Use measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, surface finish testers and digital microscopes.
- Complete in‑process inspections and inspection ready reports accurately.
- Operate and programme CMMs and measuring arms as required.
- Support materials identification, traceability, and calibration of measuring equipment.
- Follow all machine shop and quality procedures.
Training Apprenticeships include time away from work for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. You will attend Advance 1 Campus, Dudley College, DY1 4AD, one day per week during term time. You will receive an Engineering Operative Level 2 – Mechanical Manufacture Apprenticeship Qualification upon successful completion. You will be assigned an assessor who will visit the workplace every 6–8 weeks to support you. You may need to complete English/Maths functional skills as part of the apprenticeship.
Additional training includes:
- Internal and external CMM/Quality functions
- Internal and external Machining/Health and Safety
Requirements: GCSE in English (grade 4/C/Level 2 Functional Skills). We welcome candidates with additional relevant qualifications or industry experience.
