Apprenticeship Overview

The company’s 3‑year apprenticeship programme in electrical/electronic engineering provides an excellent opportunity to gain work‑based training while studying towards a recognised vocational qualification (Level 4 HNC) and other relevant technical certificates, with the possibility of progressing to further qualifications. Salary increases each year on apprenticeship dependent on performance. Wage increase once apprenticeship is completed.

Training course: Engineering manufacturing technician (Level 4)

Hours: Monday to Thursday 09:00‑17:00; Friday 09:00‑16:30 (37 hours a week).

Start date: 1 September 2026.

Duration: 3 years 5 months.

What You’ll Do at Work:

  • Rotation around key departments within the organisation to gain valuable skills.
  • Spend at least 20% of working hours completing classroom‑based learning with Dudley College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
  • Perform all practical and administrative duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Read and extract relevant engineering and manufacturing data, drawing accurate conclusions and making informed decisions.
  • Use project management tools such as SWOT, stakeholder matrices, risk mapping, and summary risk profiles.
  • Employ problem‑solving tools such as Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, Fishbone, PPS, and APQP.
  • Analyse and interpret data to generate manufacturing engineering documentation (e.g., PPM quality adherence, cost analysis, and test data).
  • Communicate via formal and informal presentations, written reports, verbal, electronic, and social media, incorporating relevant data or metrics.
  • Use the approved process and quality compliance procedures to create or amend engineering or manufacturing documentation.
  • Apply lean tools and techniques (Six Sigma, 8 Wastes, 5S, Kaizen, Poka‑Yoke).
  • Apply documentation control processes and procedures (format, location, access, authorisation).
  • Use financial planning, recording, and review processes: departmental budgets, estimating, cost control, cost forecasting, investment appraisal.
  • Use computer‑based software systems (CAD, data analytics, databases).

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. You will be required to attend Advance 1 Campus, Dudley College, DY1 4AD, 1 day per week in term time only. Upon successful completion you will receive a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician (elec/elec) HNC Apprenticeship qualification. You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace every 6–8 weeks to support you on your apprenticeship.

Requirements: GCSE English (grade C/4/Level 2 Functional Skills)

After this apprenticeship: Progression to a permanent position within the organisation.
