Job summary
We are looking for an experienced and fully qualified General Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team at Dudley Wood Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working autonomously, building relationships with patients and providing high-quality, holistic care within general practice.
We are looking for someone confident across the full range of practice nursing, including long-term condition management, childhood immunisations, vaccinations, cervical screening and routine treatment room duties . You will be an important part of our multidisciplinary team, helping us deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job
You will provide a broad range of nursing care to our registered patient population, working both independently and alongside our GPs and wider multidisciplinary team.
The role will include managing and reviewing patients with long-term conditions, delivering the childhood immunisation programme, administering vaccinations, carrying out cervical screening and providing routine treatment room care.
You will be expected to maintain accurate clinical records, follow practice policies and clinical guidance, contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement, and recognise and escalate concerns appropriately.

Job responsibilities
The Practice Nurse will work as part of the clinical team at Dudley Wood Surgery to provide high-quality nursing care to our registered patient population, in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and within the NMC scope of professional practice.
Experience in Long-Term Condition management, childhood immunisations, adult vaccinations, cervical screening and wound management is essential for this role. An understanding of QOF and primary care clinical requirements is also essential.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, manage their own workload and make appropriate clinical decisions, whilst also being a supportive and effective team player. The ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload is essential.
As an EMIS Web organisation, previous experience using EMIS would be desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high standards of clinical documentation, patient safety, infection prevention and control, safeguarding and confidentiality, and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the practice nursing service.
Main duties of the job

  • Provide nursing care to patients across a range of clinical needs.
  • Undertake reviews and management of patients with long-term conditions.
  • Deliver the childhood immunisation programme and adult vaccination services.
  • Undertake cervical screening.
  • Provide wound assessment and management.
  • Undertake routine treatment room procedures.
  • Provide health promotion and preventative healthcare advice.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and appropriate coding.
  • Work within practice policies, clinical guidance and professional standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits, QOF and quality improvement activities.
  • Recognise and appropriately escalate clinical concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team.


Qualifications
Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Recognised nursing qualification.
  • Appropriate training and competency in childhood immunisations.
  • Appropriate training and competency in cervical screening.
  • Appropriate training and competency in wound management.


Desirable

  • Practice Nurse / General Practice Nursing qualification.
  • Additional relevant primary care or long-term condition qualifications.


Experience
Essential

  • Previous experience working as a Practice Nurse or in a primary care nursing environment.
  • Experience managing patients with long-term conditions.
  • Experience delivering childhood immunisations.
  • Experience administering adult and seasonal vaccinations.
  • Experience undertaking cervical screening.
  • Experience in wound assessment and management.
  • Experience undertaking routine treatment room procedures.
  • Experience working autonomously and managing an independent workload.
  • Understanding of QOF and its application within general practice.


Desirable

  • Previous experience working with EMIS Web.
  • Experience participating in clinical audits and quality improvement.
  • Experience working within a total triage model.
  • Experience providing health promotion and preventative healthcare.
