Walsall Youth Justice Service
A Referral Order is a Court Order which can only be given to children aged between 10-18 years. A Referral Order panel member is a trained volunteer who sits alongside other trained volunteers to form a Referral Order panel. The panel will meet with the child and their family to talk about the offence and the impact of their actions on the victim(s) and community. The panel support the child to take responsibility for their own actions and create a tailored plan aimed at repairing harm and reducing the risk of re-offending.
What skills do I need?
You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, motivation, reliability, sensitivity, flexibility, discretion, commitment and negotiation. We need panel members who represent their local community, this means men and women, 18 years and over from every ethnic and social background, who are committed to making a difference for the children of Walsall.
What is the commitment?
To attend a minimum of two panel evenings per month. We ask for you to be able to commit for at least 12 months volunteering following training.
Are expenses covered?
We reimburse reasonable travel expenses against receipts and provide refreshments.
What training and support do I receive?
Full training is provided with further supervision, support and training throughout the year.
