Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and advocacy for health and wellbeing and support the development and implementation of policy and practice to reduce inequalities across Walsall.
  • Work with staff, organisations, and community groups to build public health capacity, targeting support to those in greatest need.
  • Manage Walsall's allocation of the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant, contributing to the delivery of the Tobacco Control Strategy (2023‑2027).
  • Enhance existing stop‑smoking services, expand new pathways, develop and deliver training and education programmes, and roll out public awareness campaigns.
  • Manage the budget and coordinate reporting returns associated with the grant programme.
  • Collaborate with NHS, community and voluntary sector partners, streamline referral routes, and increase the breadth and capacity of smoking cessation services including pharmacotherapies such as Varenicline.
  • Work in a matrix fashion, maintaining close links with staff in other teams and organisations on related outcomes, and cross‑cover the work of other team members as required.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working at a strategic level, developing system‑wide health and wellbeing policy, and leading significant external funding programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of smoking cessation systems and experience in system development, collaboration, and referral pathway optimisation.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and coordinate reporting for large grant programmes.
  • Evidence of generic public health skills, competencies, and knowledge that enable cross‑team coverage and rapid adoption of new work areas.

Position is not eligible for sponsorship as it does not meet the criteria threshold for sponsorship.
