About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified financial accountant who enjoys combining technical expertise with a practical, hands-on approach. You'll play a key role in ensuring the delivery of business-as-usual finance operations while leading critical financial accounting projects and supporting strategic initiatives across the Society.

You will be responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, delivering accurate reporting, supporting audits, and driving process improvements that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance function.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and support financial reconciliation projects, resolving historic reconciling items and strengthening balance sheet controls.
  • Manage the year-end statutory accounts process and coordinate activities with external auditors.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and insightful analysis.
  • Support operational finance activities, including reconciliations, reporting and financial controls.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Provide financial insight and support to stakeholders across the wider business.
  • Support and utilise finance systems, with experience of Whistlebrook and ALMIS being advantageous.

About you

We're looking for someone who brings both technical capability and a proactive, collaborative mindset. You will have:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in financial accounting roles with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Strong experience of financial reporting, reconciliations, controls and audit support.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with experience of driving efficiencies and automation.
  • Previous experience using finance systems, preferably Whistlebrook and ALMIS.

What you'll get in return:

  • Up to £56,000 (depending on skills and experience)
  • Intelligent working - split your time between home and our Brierley Hill office;
  • 30 days' holiday + bank holidays + 'Moments that Matter' days (birthdays, weddings, getting your house keys, welcoming a grandchild - the moments that count)
  • Up to 8% pension contribution
  • Life assurance at 4× salary
  • Full Private Medical Insurance for you and your family
  • A healthcare plan for everyday essentials like dental and optical
  • Access to our Salary Sacrifice schemes: Cycle to Work and Electric Car schemes.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

We're building a culture where everyone feels respected, supported and valued. Diversity isn't a tick-box for us - it's a strength we actively champion. Whoever you are, and whatever makes you you, you'll be welcomed here and encouraged to thrive.
