This is an important commercial role requiring someone with strong print-industry knowledge, excellent numerical skills and the ability to produce accurate, commercially sound estimates. You will work closely with our sales, production and design teams, as well as our network of UK and international suppliers. Packaging experience would be advantageous, but it is not essential. We are primarily looking for someone with solid estimating experience and a strong understanding of the print trade.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a wide range of print and packaging projects
- Reviewing customer briefs, artwork specifications and production requirements
- Liaising with multiple suppliers to obtain competitive prices, lead times and production information
- Comparing different production methods and recommending the most commercially effective solution
- Calculating material, production, finishing, delivery and other associated costs
- Applying agreed company margins and ensuring quotations meet profitability targets
- Producing clear and accurate quotations for the sales and account management teams
- Understanding the commercial impact of volumes, materials, print processes and finishing options
- Identifying opportunities to improve value, reduce costs and protect margins
- Maintaining accurate supplier pricing and estimating information
- Supporting the team with technical print and production advice
- Following quotations through and making any necessary amendments when specifications change
- Developing strong working relationships with suppliers and internal departments
- Working to deadlines while managing several estimates and live enquiries simultaneously
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least five years’ experience working within the print industry
- Previous experience in print estimating or a closely related commercial print role
- Strong working knowledge of both lithographic and digital printing
- A good understanding of print materials, production processes and finishing techniques
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of margins and profitability
- The ability to interpret briefs and technical specifications accurately
- Confidence communicating and negotiating with suppliers
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a busy team
- Competent using estimating systems, spreadsheets and general office software
ABOUT YOU:
You will be commercially minded, highly organised and naturally confident with numbers. You will understand that a successful estimate must be accurate and competitive while achieving the correct margin for the business. You will be comfortable contacting suppliers, asking the right technical questions and comparing different options to find the most appropriate production route. You will also be able to work at pace without losing attention to detail. This position would suit an experienced print professional who wants to join an ambitious and growing company, work across a broad range of interesting projects and play an important part in our continued development.
