Overview of the department - School of Nursing, Psychotherapy & Community Health

The School leads in advancing population and patient health, inclusion and well-being through education, research, practice, and policy development. Our multi-disciplinary and multi-professional School has gained national and international recognition for its diverse range of innovative undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional development programmes across Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health.

Role Profile

The School is seeking to recruit exceptionally qualified candidates at the level of Associate Professor in General Nursing. The successful candidate will be recognised as a leader in their discipline, hold a reputation for academic excellence and have an extensive portfolio of internationally competitive research including high impact publications and funding successes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Learning: To contribute to the teaching and learning activity of the School by coordinating and delivering modules, using a wide range of teaching methodologies, enhancing existing modules, contributing to the design of new modules, and providing research supervision for taught postgraduate students.
  • Research and Scholarship: To contribute to the research agenda by having clearly articulated research interests, publishing in high impact journals, generating research income, attracting and supervising postgraduate research students, and contributing to the research culture in the School.
  • Service and Contribution to the University and Society: To contribute to the leadership, management and administration of the School by engaging in relevant committees, accreditation activities, representing the School, developing relationships with stakeholders, and engaging in external activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants will be qualified to a post-graduate level and must have completed a PhD/Doctorate in General Nursing or a relevant health-related field. They must be registered or eligible to register in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, and have a minimum of three years’ relevant teaching experience at University level.

Applicants will show substantial evidence of a well-established research profile, a successful track record of attracting external funding, and a sustained track record of peer-reviewed publications. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with evidence of successful teamwork and a collaborative approach, are essential.

The successful candidate will ideally possess registration or eligibility to register on the Nurse Tutor’s Division with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or hold a recognised teaching qualification.

Essential Compliance Training

The postholder will be required to undertake essential compliance training including Orientation, Health & Safety, Data Protection (GDPR), Cyber Security Awareness, and AI Literacy.
