Nanofabrication Engineer

We design and build photonic quantum technologies from the ground up. Together with our partners, we are applying our technology to overcome barriers to clean energy, quantum networking, and quantum computing.

We seek a Nanofabrication Engineer to join our hardware team and contribute towards the design and prototyping of our quantum processors. This permanent role is full time (37.5 hrs/week) and on-site at our Southampton premises. Salary range is £40k – £66k depending on experience (a higher salary is possible where appropriate for more senior appointments). Additionally, we offer share options and other benefits.

Main roles

  • Fabricate photonics processors in a cleanroom environment
  • Improve fabrication processes to optimise for quality and reproducibility
  • Liaise with our photonic engineers for rapid prototyping
  • Contribute to the company vision for nanofabrication of photonic devices
  • Review process control and troubleshoot fabrication issues

Required qualifications and experience

  • Degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
  • 3+ years experience of nanofabrication in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience with broad nanofabrication suit, including optical and electron-beam lithography, dry and wet etching, thin-film deposition and SEM characterization
  • Experience with mask/GDS handling

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with fabrication of photonics or quantum technology components
  • Experience with proximity correction software
  • Experience with backend technology
  • Understanding of photonic characterization techniques
