Job Overview: A Duality Healthcare Registered Nurse works collaboratively with clinicians in delivering high quality patient care across a range of services including blood tests, spirometry, ECGs, wellness checks, and routine observations. The role will involve supervision of healthcare assistants, coordinating and delegating tasks within their scope of practice, assisting with clinical procedures, providing essential administrative support, and ensuring a seamless patient experience, all while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision, support and leadership to Healthcare Assistants.
  • Allocate and delegate duties appropriately according to competence, training and scope of practice.
  • Support induction, training and competency assessment of all new HCAs.
  • Liaise with the Regional Operational Manager to ensure safe staffing.
  • Escalate concerns to the Practice Coordinator, Lead Nurse, Regional Operational Manager, as applicable.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in infection prevention and control activities and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure consultation rooms are prepared and checked daily for each clinic e.g. clean, PPE replenished, maintaining accurate records of same.
  • Equipment cleaning in line with infection control procedures, maintaining accurate records of same.
  • Chaperoning and assisting GPs and Consultants.
  • Phlebotomy the taking of, labelling and sending of blood, urine and stool samples according to clinic protocols and laboratory requirements.
  • Measuring and recording of patient physiological demographics including automated blood pressure, height, weight, waist/chest circumference and other measurements.
  • ECG Monitoring.
  • Urine testing dipstick and pregnancy testing.
  • Health checks and wellness assessments.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient notes within the electronic system.
  • Stock control, stock ordering, stock rotation and clinical room preparation, maintaining accurate records of same.
  • Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies within the practice setting.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and comply with the NMC Code.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and mandatory training.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection legislation.
  • Participate in clinical audit and service development initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration.
  • Minimum of one years post-registration experience.
  • Experience in Outpatient or treatment room nursing.
  • Competence in phlebotomy, ECGs, wound management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring support staff.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work across 7 days a week.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in private healthcare or general practice settings.
  • Experience with electronic patient record systems such as EMIS.
  • Ability to travel to other clinics if and as required.
