We are currently recruiting an experienced CSA Supervisor for a major data centre construction project in Camberley, Surrey. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of Civil, Structural and Architectural works across the project. You will oversee CSA subcontractors, monitor programme and quality performance, coordinate closely with mechanical and electrical teams and ensure all works are completed safely and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
This is a site-based contract role requiring previous experience supervising CSA packages on data centre, mission-critical or other technically demanding construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- You will supervise the daily delivery of Civil, Structural and Architectural works, managing subcontractors, operatives and specialist contractors across the project.
- You will ensure all works are completed safely, in accordance with approved RAMS, construction drawings, technical specifications, Inspection and Test Plans and project quality requirements.
- The role will involve monitoring progress against the main programme, short-term lookahead programmes and agreed project milestones.
- You will monitor labour, materials, plant and subcontractor productivity and report any delays or resource issues to the Construction Manager or Project Manager.
- You will coordinate CSA activities with mechanical, electrical, commissioning and fit-out teams, ensuring builders’ work, penetrations, equipment bases, access requirements and service interfaces are properly managed.
- You will review drawings and technical information before works commence, identify discrepancies, clashes and missing information and raise RFIs or technical queries where required.
- You will carry out regular site inspections, coordinate quality hold points and benchmarks and ensure inspection records are completed correctly.
- The CSA Supervisor will be responsible for identifying and closing out defects, snagging items, non-conformance reports and outstanding quality issues.
- You will attend daily coordination, subcontractor and progress meetings and provide accurate daily reports, progress updates and photographic records.
- The role will also involve coordinating deliveries, access routes, material storage, work areas and site logistics associated with CSA packages.
- You will ensure completed installations are properly protected and maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and material control throughout the data centre.
- You will support project completion by managing snagging, quality close-out, completion records and handover documentation.
CSA Packages
The role may involve supervising groundworks, drainage, foundations, concrete works, structural steelwork, precast concrete, roofing, waterproofing, external cladding and building-envelope works. Architectural packages may include internal walls, partitions, ceilings, raised access flooring, doors, ironmongery, fire-rated installations, fire stopping, compartmentation and architectural finishes. The CSA Supervisor may also oversee technical rooms, plant areas, data halls, external works and builders’ work associated with mechanical and electrical installations.
Data Centre Responsibilities
As this is a data centre project, the successful candidate must understand the importance of coordinating CSA construction with high-density mechanical and electrical installations. You will be expected to manage interfaces between the building structure, containment, pipework, ductwork, specialist equipment and associated builders’ work. You must ensure fire compartmentation is maintained and that penetrations are correctly recorded, inspected and sealed. The role may involve working around phased energisation, commissioning activities, controlled-access areas and completed data halls or technical spaces. High standards of cleanliness, installation protection, quality documentation and change control must be maintained throughout the project.
Experience Required
Applicants must have previous experience working as a CSA Supervisor, Site Supervisor, General Foreman or Works Supervisor on a large-scale construction project. Previous data centre or mission-critical project experience is strongly preferred. You should have strong experience supervising Civil, Structural and Architectural subcontractors and a good understanding of construction sequencing, programme delivery and site coordination. You must be able to read and understand construction drawings, technical specifications, schedules and Inspection and Test Plans. Experience managing inspections, quality records, snagging, defects, RFIs, NCRs and handover activities is required. You should understand temporary works controls and be confident coordinating CSA activities with mechanical, electrical, fit-out and commissioning teams. Applicants must have strong health and safety knowledge, good communication skills and the ability to manage subcontractors firmly and professionally. You must be comfortable working within a fast-paced and programme-driven data centre construction environment.
Qualifications and Certifications
Applicants should ideally hold a valid CSCS Gold Supervisor Card, CSCS Black Manager Card or another CSCS card appropriate to the position. SMSTS, First Aid at Work and a Temporary Works Supervisor qualification are strongly preferred. A relevant construction, civil engineering, building or trade qualification is also desirable. SSSTS may be considered where supported by strong CSA supervision and data centre experience. Additional qualifications such as Fire Marshal, PASMA, IPAF or Temporary Works Coordinator would be advantageous. An NVQ Level 3, 4, 5 or 6, HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related subject would be beneficial but is not essential.
Desirable Experience
Experience delivering hyperscale or colocation data centres would be highly advantageous. Experience working for a main contractor, specialist data centre contractor or CSA subcontractor would also be beneficial. Knowledge of fire stopping, compartmentation, builders’ work requirements and CSA-to-MEP interfaces is preferred. Experience using digital site-management systems such as Procore, Field View, Dalux or similar would be advantageous.
