DSV is recruiting for a Customs Compliance Assistant at DSV Road, Harwich. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join a company committed to providing quality, innovative logistics services.
Purpose of the role
To support compliance in Customs & Security activities across DSV, safeguarding assets, and ensuring a safe environment for employees, visitors, and customer freight. The Customs Compliance Assistant will facilitate the compliance of import and export activities in accordance with all regulations and controls.
Key Tasks
- Liaise with Logistics to authorize dispatches within the UK and to EU destinations.
- Maintain records for dispatched goods, ensuring compliance with shipping instructions, customs entries, and shipment documentation.
- Declare consignments containing hazardous goods correctly and provide supporting paperwork.
- Check freight accounts for correct charges and duties/taxes before processing payments.
- Arrange clearance of goods into the UK, issuing instructions to agents and authorizing payments as needed.
- Ensure import permits/licenses are in place for smooth importation.
- Maintain records for import consignments and complete HMRC returns.
- Assist with HMRC, HMG, and internal audits.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in freight forwarding or logistics.
- Proven experience as a Trade or Customs Compliance Officer.
- Experience with Customs Warehouse and customs entries.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to meet deadlines and KPIs.
- Willingness to learn and good administration skills.
- Knowledge of HMRC formalities and export controls.
- Excellent communication skills.
