It takes a special kind of drive to keep the world moving; and due to growth, DSV is looking to recruit. DSV are recruiting for Customs Compliance Assistant at DSV Road, Harwich. Purpose of the role

To support compliance in Customs & Security activities across DSV, safeguarding the company’s assets, as well as ensuring a safe and secure environment for employees and visitors and customer’s freight. The Customs Compliance Assistant will be responsible to facilitate the compliance of import and export activities relating to the business in accordance with all national and international regulations and controls.

Key Tasks

  • Liaising with the Logistics function to authorise dispatches of goods to Customers/Suppliers both within the UK and to EU destinations.
  • Supervision of the maintenance of all internal records for dispatched goods including checks that Shipping Instructions are followed; customs entries with departure message/s are received; shipment paperwork is obtained (Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, Certificates of Shipment and Proofs of Delivery).
  • Ensuring that any consignments which contain hazardous goods are correctly declared to the freight forwarder and that supporting paperwork is provided as required.
  • Checking of freight accounts for both export and import consignments issued by the relevant forwarder/Agent to ensure correct charges have been levied for the service/s provided and/or duties/taxes paid before passing them to the finance department for payment.
  • Arranging clearance of goods into the UK as appropriate - Issuing instructions with the relevant CPC to the agent (including Commercial Couriers) to allow for the goods' timely clearance into the UK and where necessary, authorizing payment/suspension of applicable duties/taxes.
  • Ensuring that any import permits/licences are in place to allow for the smooth importation of the goods into the UK.
  • Maintaining all internal records for import consignments and completing all relevant HMRC returns.
  • Assisting with all relevant HMRC, HMG and corporate/internal audits as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Freight forwarding or logistics background.
  • Proven experience as a Trade Compliance / Customs Compliance Officer or freight forwarding, logistics, import / export orientated role.
  • Customs Warehouse experience.
  • Experience in customs entries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and KPIs.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Administration Skills.
  • Knowledge of HMRC related formalities.
  • Awareness of Export controls.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
