Join England’s largest non-metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service and help protect communities across Devon and Somerset. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are looking for a Data Management Officer to join our forward-thinking Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) team, based at our Service Headquarters in Exeter. This role is available on a permanent full-time basis, working 37 hours per week, with a starting salary of £38,220 rising annually to £40,777 (gross) per annum.
You’ll play a key role in strengthening how we manage, govern, and use data across the Service. Working within our Information and Data Governance function, you’ll support the development of high-quality, trusted data that underpins critical decision-making. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation to improve data quality, embed best practices, and unlock greater value from our data assets.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting the delivery and adoption of our data management framework
- Monitoring and improving data quality across key systems
- Managing data quality issues, risks and remediation plans
- Maintaining core data assets, registers, and reference data
- Providing expert guidance on data governance and best practice
- Supporting training and promoting a strong data culture
- Developing dashboards, reporting, and foundational data services (including geospatial data)
- Working with stakeholders to resolve data challenges and improve processes
What we’re looking for:
A proactive and knowledgeable data professional who can translate complex data concepts into practical solutions. You’ll be confident working with stakeholders, driving improvements, and championing high standards in data management.
Essential criteria:
- Excellent customer service focus to support individuals across the organisation with data related queries, including coaching non-specialists to embed major changes to policy, process or behaviour
- The confidence to make decisions about data, especially where information may be ambiguous with no clear answer
- The ability to communicate and influence across all levels of the organisation to embed a culture of working to improve data quality
- Evidence of an ability to work independently and maintain long-term progress on a variety of complex workstreams, ensuring competing deadlines are met
- The ability to assess detailed information critically and analyse it systematically to identify issues, track causation and propose remediation as required
