We have an exciting opportunity for a highly collaborative and results-driven professional to join our team as Safety Excellence SIF Prevention & Making Safe Decisions Workstream Lead. This is a pivotal role within DS Smith's multi-year Safety Excellence programme, a cultural transformation initiative focused on elevating how we work safely every day at every level.

As Workstream Lead you will manage two critical components of the Safety Excellence programme: SIF Prevention and Making Safe Decisions. These workstreams are essential to reducing serious injury and fatality (SIF) potential across our operations and embedding safe decision-making behaviours at every level of the organisation. You will be working in partnership with a leading third-party safety consultant, engaging teams through strategic workstreams that target key drivers of safety performance. This initiative is about doing safety better together with the consistency, leadership, and focus it takes to make lasting change.

Key responsibilities include:

  • SIF Prevention: Collaborate with DEKRA and internal HSE / Operations SMEs to review current processes and refine our approach to SIF prevention. Define, measure, and ensure EMEA-wide understanding of SIF potential, setting clear parameters for reduction. Review and adapt Field Verification Critical Controls and related processes. Upskill SMEs on new processes and changes across the business. Manage Event Learning processes including training facilitators and measuring adoption and effectiveness.
  • Making Safe Decisions: Develop a deployment plan for the final stage of the Safety Excellence programme commencing in 2027. Identify and manage the selection of 250 internal facilitators for DEKRA's train-the-trainer approach. Oversee the rollout of workshops and coaching sessions across all EMEA countries. Work with leaders to agree strategies for training delivery including shift release planning and approval processes.

This role requires a highly collaborative approach, strong organisational skills, and practical problem-solving capabilities. You will work closely with the Safety Excellence Programme team, SMEs, and stakeholders across the business as well as our external partner DEKRA to ensure successful delivery and adoption of these critical workstreams.

About you:

  • Demonstrable experience in safety leadership, cultural transformation, or operational excellence within a complex global organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of safety systems, processes, and risk reduction strategies.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale workstreams and training deployments across multiple geographies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and resilient with a practical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
