The Senior Manager, US GAAP Reporting of DS Smith, an International Paper Company will be a key member of the group reporting team to ensure proper financial reporting of consolidated results for the company and add value as a key strategic advisor and thought partner to the EMEA business leadership team during a period of transformation for the company.
The role will report to DS Smith’s Financial Controller and serve as a key liaison with our external audit firms (integrated and statutory audits) in EMEA, external advisors, our reporting teams in the UK and at International Paper’s headquarters in the USA. The focus of the role will be to ensure the appropriate US GAAP and IFRS reporting of the business results, while helping to drive effectiveness and efficiency in our control, accounting and reporting processes.
The role will operate in a SOX compliant reporting environment and this role would need to support SOX controls within the reporting and US GAAP accounting environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide timely and accurate accounting and reporting to drive financial results
- Work with BU finance and group reporting to deliver accurate US GAAP and IFRS reporting for the DS Smith business and identify accounting and reporting issues through careful and proactive analysis.
- Deliver lean reporting processes, to meet tight public reporting obligations, with a focus on both quarterly and annual reporting, including the support of disclosure preparation.
Help manage risk, support effective governance and oversee US GAAP accounting for the DS Smith business unit
- Provide a materiality assessment for risk tolerance within the business in decision making and in providing advice.
- Remain up to date technically and on regulations and e ncourage a culture of trust for disclosing problems and concerns.
Support development of the capability and effectiveness of the accounting and finance teams in EMEA
- Assess the capabilities, experience and acumen of the existing team which will support the development and delivery of US GAAP training programs for the entire BU finance team including division, sub-region, plant-level, and shared service centre talent.
- Evaluate financial systems to increase automation, enhance analytical capability and streamline reporting.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
- Track record in a financial reporting leadership position within a large matrixed organisation – either within an asset-heavy business, or with exposure to similar industries in the Big Four accountancy firms.
- Significant technical experience and hands-on knowledge of USGAAP and IFRS accounting standards a prerequisite.
- Experience in foreign exchange and hedge accounting preferred.
- Strong understanding of different integrated financial systems across a matrixed organisation. e.g. SAP, Hyperion Financial Management.
- A qualified accountant e.g. ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
