Purpose of Job
To help maintain/improve the quality of older people by identifying and attending to their individual physical, emotional and social needs and to support the person to remain as independent as they can in the community.

Social Care Worker Level 2/3 – P/T Permanent (30 hours)
Reporting To
Day Care Manager

Aims of Service

  • To maintain and develop a quality service which is supportive to both service users and carers.
  • To ensure that older people within the local community are supported to remain in their own homes through Day Care and other agency services.
  • To offer a resource, giving advice on welfare rights, health education, advice for carers, advocacy and to offer information.
  • To provide physical and mental stimulation.
  • To liaise with different statutory and voluntary organisations and other professionals.
  • To encourage individual rights and choices.
  • To keep staff informed of training opportunities.
  • To keep Personal Care Plans up to date.
  • To maintain standards set down by the Care Inspectorate - dignity, privacy, choice, safety, realising potential, equality and diversity.

Major Tasks / Job Activities

  • To actively promote participation strategy in right to choice and decision making.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To assist service user with personal care when required.
  • To monitor and report improvements, deterioration or other concerns.
  • To participate in the development of individual care plans for each client, using a person-centred approach.
  • To take part in individual supervision.
  • To be willing to be involved in staff development and training courses.
  • Liaise with all professionals, outside agencies, relatives and other carers.
  • To escort service users to and from the centre each day, ensuring client safety at all times, both within and outside the centre.
  • Be responsive to the changing needs of service users.
  • To be able to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Be willing to accompany service users on outings and appointments.
  • To take time to listen to service users and take an interest in their lives, using every opportunity to communicate with and encourage them.
  • To be aware of Health and Safety regulations at all times.

Location
You will initially be based at Drylaw Rainbow Club Day Centre, Drylaw Parish Church Groathill Road North Edinburgh. However, during your employment you may be required to work in other centres.

Hours of Work
30 hours per week (part time)
