We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Contract Systems Engineer to assist our growing Systems function to undertake Systems Integration for projects in our Maritime sector. You will take a lead role in the integration of a complex sonar system upgrade involving specialist sensors, electronics and signal processing firmware and software.
Taking an active role that spans the right-hand side of the “V” systems development lifecycle, you will be involved in planning and executing system integration & test activities, system and sub-system qualification and configuration as well as design data pack updates, and will help gain customer acceptance ensuring all capability requirements are met. This will involve generating and reviewing system integration and test documentation or equipment, hands on involvement with system integration and qualification, and participation in key meetings and user acceptance events.

What you’ll do
- Undertake system integration activities through all phases of test, integration and leading to customer acceptance.
- Develop and review technical documentation to support the project deliverables, including test specifications, procedures and reports.
- Undertake testing, integration and qualification activities including fault finding.
- Identify project technical risks and opportunities.
- Liaise with the hardware, software and firmware engineering development teams to ensure that the system achieves the operational performance requirements and any faults are dealt with efficiently and swiftly.
- Involvement with acceptance events at factory and external sites.
- Involvement in the safety, reliability and the planning for through-life support of products.
- Work with external test houses to demonstrate equipment complies with MoD and European standards, including CE/UKCA marking.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements and safe practices and procedures operated by the company.
- Assist with design data pack updates (e.g. Bill of Materials, schematics and Change Notes), and configuration in accordance with company procedures.
- Foster good working relationships with suppliers and customers.
What you’ll need
- Experience delivering aspects of system test and integration, preferably in the defence domain.
- Awareness of the system lifecycle, design, development, testing, integration and acceptance.
- The ability to analyse and evidence system acceptance requirements, including from product qualification testing.
- Ability to produce high quality technical documentation including test reports and verification evidence.
- Appreciation of electronics, and software/firmware design principles to assist with fault finding.
- Have a high level of both verbal and written communication skills providing regular communication to internal and external stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload with a hands-on approach.
- Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions.
- Degree educated or equivalent qualification/experience.
- At least a BSc Degree in Engineering, Maths or Science subject or equivalent experience.
- Current, valid, SC UK security clearance is essential.
- Sole UK Nationality is preferred but not essential.
- Previous experience working with MoD customers & equipment test standards is desirable.
- This role is office based at Drumgrange Chertsey but may involve travel to customer and supplier sites.
