We are looking for a highly experienced and enthusiastic Senior Systems Engineer to assist our growing Systems function across a diverse range of projects. You will be initially involved in the definition and delivery of complex systems involving specialist sensors, electronics and signal processing firmware and software to C4ISR customers. Taking an active role that spans the breadth of the systems development lifecycle, you will be involved in planning and executing system design and development, system and sub-system implementation as well as integration and testing, and will help gain customer acceptance ensuring all design requirements are met. This will involve generating and reviewing system design artefacts, hands on involvement with system integration and qualification, and participation in key meetings and design reviews. The work is predominantly related to sensor and communications networked systems but also includes sensor processing and soldier-worn combat systems. Currently, the work covers Land Systems but has the potential to evolve into other associated domains and other product lines in the future.
What you’ll do
- Undertake design activities at the equipment, system and software levels.
- Meet technical requirements through all phases of design, integration and leading to customer acceptance.
- Develop and review technical documentation to support project development and deliverables, including test plans, specifications and procedures.
- Undertake testing and qualification activities throughout the project.
- Identify project technical risks and opportunities.
- Attendance and input to project design reviews with customers.
- Involvement with acceptance events at factory and external sites.
- Involvement in the safety, reliability and through-life support of products.
- Support the business development by assisting preparation of technical proposals & solutions.
- Foster good working relationships with suppliers and customers.
- Supporting the research and development of products within the Company, improving engineering quality, efficiency and cost.
What you’ll need
- Track record of delivering complex system design, implementation, test and integration in the Defence (or similar, highly regulated) domain.
- Experience of full system lifecycle, design, development, testing, integration and acceptance.
- The ability to analyse and specify system acceptance requirements.
- Understanding of network technologies.
- Appreciation of complex electronics and firmware design principles.
- Strong technical knowledge of military-grade COTS communication and sensor systems.
- Have a high level of both verbal and written communication skills providing regular communications to internal and external stakeholders, customers and suppliers.
- Experience of Model Based System Engineering (desirable).
- Experience of Windows and Linux Operating Systems (desirable).
- Appreciation of modern software design techniques and languages (e.g. C++, Java, C#) (desirable).
- Signal & image processing knowledge (desirable).
- Member of a Professional Engineering or Science Institute (desirable).
- Experience of agile or spiral development lifecycles (desirable).
- At least a BSc Degree in Engineering, Maths or Science subject or equivalent experience.
- Sole UK National.
- Ability to attain DV or SC UK Security Clearance.
- Full driving license.
- Ability to ad-hoc travel within the UK.
