We offer a “one stop shop” for material supply (Wholesale Division) and engineering (Engineering Services Division), unique within the hazardous area market.
Location: Site Based: St Neots and Customer sites | Type: Up to 2 Year Fixed Term | Company: Dron & Dickson | Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 12‑hour per day | Travel: UK travel required including offshore assignments
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Project Commissioning Engineer – Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS) to support national and international Energy sector projects utilising ABB technologies. This role is key in ensuring the safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery of project commissioning activities across a range of on‑site installation, construction and commissioning environments.
You will act as a technical specialist during the start‑up and commissioning phases, ensuring all work is undertaken in line with contractual requirements, safety standards, quality expectations and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and perform commissioning activities for ICSS systems during on-site installation and start‑up.
- Ensure ABB‑delivered equipment is stored, handled, installed and documented.
- Coordinate technical queries with ABB project teams and product development.
- Conduct Internal Testing, FATs and Site Acceptance Tests.
- Maintain and update project documentation, ensuring correct revision control.
- Monitor compliance with relevant codes, QA/QC policies and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Provide regular progress reporting and maintain strong communication with project stakeholders.
- HNC/HND or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar ICSS commissioning role.
- Offshore working experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of ICSS industry standards and specifications.
- Extensive experience in ICSS design, configuration, testing and commissioning—preferably within the Energy sector.
- Proficiency in ABB engineering tools: 800xA, AC800M Engineering, AC400 Advant Master.
- Competency in IEC61131 programming languages.
- Experience with ABB hardware including cabinet build and loop design.
- Knowledge of industrial software tools (e.g., Modbus & IEC simulators).
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols: IEC61850, Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, HART.
- Aware of networking and cyber security principles.
- Experience with ICSS change management processes.
- Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Methodical, well‑organised and strong time management.
- Customer‑focused and professional when engaging at all levels.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Willingness to travel and work offshore as project demands require.
