One of our long-standing clients based in Normanton is looking for a Class 1 Driver who is also happy to carry out Class 2 work when required. As their sole agency supplier, we're trusted to provide all of their holiday and sickness cover, giving us advance visibility of upcoming work and allowing us to plan shifts with our drivers wherever possible. This is an ongoing opportunity, with work varying depending on the client's requirements. Some weeks may offer 2-3 shifts, while others could be a full week's work covering planned holidays. If you're looking for flexible, well-organised agency work with a client we know inside out, this is an excellent opportunity. The majority of the work is straightforward general haulage.

Class 1 shifts typically involve a full load out and a return load, with no trailer swaps and no handball. Class 2 work usually consists of around 4-5 deliveries and collections, with the vast majority of loads forklifted on and off, meaning there's no pump truck or tail lift work. You'll simply be responsible for securing your load, opening and closing the curtains, and providing excellent customer service throughout the day.

What will you be doing?

  • Completing Class 1 full-load deliveries with return loads.
  • Carrying out Class 2 general haulage work, typically involving around 4-5 deliveries and collections.
  • Securing loads using straps and operating curtain-sided vehicles.
  • Delivering to businesses and commercial premises, with the majority of loads being forklifted on and off.
  • Keeping the transport office updated throughout the day and providing excellent customer service.

One thing our drivers always mention about this client is how welcoming and supportive the transport team are. In fact, one of the drivers we originally supplied to this client enjoyed working there so much that they went on to join the office team full-time! Now they're one of the people who books agency drivers through us. Another big advantage is the variety of work available. Rather than working within a pallet network, this client specialises in general and international freight, meaning no two days are quite the same. From straightforward full-load deliveries to general haulage work, there's a good mix of driving to keep the role interesting.

Pay

  • CLASS 1- £17.50 per hour (including holiday pay)
  • CLASS 1 - £15.62 per hour (holiday accrued separately)
  • CLASS 2 – £16 per hour (including holiday pay)

PAYE only - we don't use umbrella companies.

Why work through Drivers Plus?

  • Weekly pay
  • No umbrella company deductions
  • Pension scheme
  • Employed status
  • Personal accident insurance

With it being a zero-hour contract, if your shift ever gets cancelled, we'll have other work opportunities to keep you busy. Although this client is currently advertising for a Class 1 and 2 Driver, they often have various roles available – we'll always try to match you with suitable work.

What we need from you

  • A valid HGV/LGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence.
  • To be happy and willing to carry out both Class 1 and Class 2 work, depending on the client's requirements.
  • Minimum 2 years with an HGV licence and at least 6 months HGV driving experience.
  • A valid Driver CPC.
  • A valid Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
  • We can accept up to 6 penalty points, however we cannot accept DD, DG, DR, TT, CD or IN endorsements.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Employment references and licence checks will be carried out before employment.
  • Applicants should be medically fit to carry out HGV driving duties (where applicable).
