Relief HGV Driver – Specialist Transport & Welfare Services | Livingston

Are you an experienced HGV driver looking for a varied and dynamic role? Driver Hire Edinburgh West are seeking a Relief Driver to join our client’s specialist transport team, stepping in to cover holidays, vacancies, and training absences across multiple locations. This role offers diverse driving assignments, nights away, and weekend travel, making it ideal for those who enjoy a mix of responsibilities and the opportunity to work with different vehicle types.

The Role

As a Relief Driver, you’ll be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our client’s fleet, transporting modular buildings, temporary accommodation, and welfare units across the UK. Your duties will also extend to supporting our Tanker Team, providing critical site services to their customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance
    • Actively promote a strong health & safety culture, ensuring best practices at all times.
    • Ensure all deliveries and collections are carried out safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
    • Report any incidents, near misses, or unsafe acts to maintain a transparent safety-first environment.
    • Carry out vehicle and equipment safety checks before every journey, reporting any faults immediately.
  • Transport & Logistics
    • Deliver modular structures and welfare units on time, following designated routes and movement orders.
    • Operate lorry loader cranes (31–82 tonnes) for safe and precise deliveries.
    • Manage wagon & drag and articulated vehicle operations as required.
    • Complete tanker service calls, ensuring customer welfare needs are met.
    • Adhere to EU driving hours and Working Time Directive regulations, targeting zero infringements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) Licence with Driver CPC
  • Proven experience operating lorry loader cranes (31–82 tonnes)
  • CPCS and/or ALLMI lorry loader operator qualification (D1+E Unlimited or equivalent) – Essential
  • Experience with hook lifts, wagon & drag, and articulated vehicles
  • A strong advocate for safety and compliance
  • A customer-focused mindset with exceptional service standards
  • Willingness to travel nationwide with overnight stays and flexibility for short-notice assignments
