Transport Compliance Manager required for a six-month fixed-term contract based in Buckfastleigh, Devon. Driver Hire/dh Recruitment (Torbay & Barnstaple) is recruiting for an experienced Transport Compliance Manager on behalf of our client. This is an urgent requirement and would suit someone with a current Transport Manager CPC who can step into a busy transport compliance role quickly.
The position is a full-time contract for 40 hours per week. The role is mainly office-based and is primarily worked from Sunday to Thursday, although some flexibility with days and hours will be needed to meet the needs of the operation. The position is an oversight and assurance role, focused on keeping the transport operation safe, compliant and audit-ready.

Predominantly office-based, with occasional travel where required.
Salary
£25,000 to £30,000 for the six month contract. This is the total gross salary for the full six month contract, not an annual salary. This is equivalent to approximately £50,000 to £60,000 per year if annualised.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain oversight of transport compliance processes across the operation
- Ensure Operator Licence obligations, DVSA requirements and transport legislation are being met
- Monitor drivers’ hours, tachograph data and Working Time Directive compliance
- Review and record infringements, identifying risks and escalating concerns clearly
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready records for drivers, vehicles and Operator Licence requirements
- Support readiness for DVSA audits and regulatory inspections
- Oversee fleet compliance, including maintenance schedules, inspections and roadworthiness standards
- Provide structured compliance reporting to the Transport General Manager
- Identify gaps, risks and trends within compliance processes
- Work with transport planners, driver management and wider operational teams to ensure standards are applied consistently
- Provide clear, practical guidance on transport compliance requirements
- Support improvements that strengthen compliance controls and reduce avoidable risk
Qualifications
Essential
- Current Transport Manager CPC qualification
- Experience supporting DVSA audits or regulatory inspections
- Strong working knowledge of UK transport legislation
- Knowledge of Operator Licence requirements, drivers’ hours, tachographs, Working Time Directive rules and DVSA standards
- Experience working in a compliant transport or logistics environment
- Experience maintaining transport compliance records and documentation
- Ability to interpret compliance data and identify risks early
- High attention to detail and a structured approach to record keeping
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain compliance requirements clearly
- Confidence using transport systems, telematics or compliance tools
- Ability to work independently while staying aligned with the wider transport team

- Experience in a fast-paced or multi-site transport operation
- Understanding of vehicle maintenance planning and fleet compliance requirements
