We have a client that has a temp to perm role that has become available. Our client provides stage lighting and rigging services with a location in Basingstoke looking for a Cat C driver to join them. The successful candidate would work in our client's operations team focusing on two primary areas of activity:

  • Driving our client’s vehicles to deliver and collect equipment from various suppliers or venue sites in a safe and compliant manner at all times. This will include the loading and unloading of equipment and will take place at varying times and on various days over the week. Our client operates 24/7. During quieter periods, you may also be on standby at the warehouse, carrying out other duties whilst awaiting any last minute driving requests.
  • Maintain the company’s vehicles in a clean and presentable condition at all times, acting as a public face of the business to its customers.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Driving our client’s vehicles to deliver and collect equipment to various performance venues and sites around the UK and Europe.
  • Driving to deliver and collect equipment from the warehouses of other technical suppliers around the UK and Europe.
  • Many deliveries and collections are outside of standard working hours, by nature of the business. Working hours and shift schedules will include the requirement to work outside of standard office hours and will include evenings, night work and weekend/bank holiday working. Often driving schedules will change at short notice or additional deliveries will be requested from site. A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours will be vital.
  • Assisting technical crew on-site with loading equipment into or out of a venue.
  • Planning routes and departure times for deliveries. Punctuality is absolutely vital in this deadline-driven industry and you will be required to plan your route and establish departure times to ensure deliveries are made at scheduled times.
  • Loading and unloading of equipment from vehicles. The role involves an element of manual handling of bulky and heavy technical equipment.
  • Maintain the company vehicles in a clean and presentable condition, internally and externally at all times.
  • Perform Daily Driver Defect checks on company vehicles (Fluid levels, tire pressures, lights etc) and record these using the company defect reporting system.
  • Collecting and returning rental vehicles, vans and trucks from vehicle hire suppliers as required.
  • Ensure that the company’s EPOD and driver scheduling system is used for each delivery and that POD is captured for each delivery or collection.
  • Ensure all loads are secured and correctly loaded before driving any of the company’s vehicles.
  • Ensure all receipts relating to vehicle fuel, road tools and running costs are correctly accounted for and presented to your Line Manager.
  • As directed, provide support to the other teams within the company, to assist in other aspects of the business’s activity and operations, as required.
  • Keep all work-related information confidential and act in a professional manner at all times, in all work situations.
  • Identify any areas of our operation where you believe training and additional skills may be required or benefit yourself or the business.
  • Provide feedback within the immediate team and to the Reporting Line Manager of any areas of improvement, development or growth of the business you have identified.
  • Be aware of and comply with the company Health and Safety Policy and all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that the Company’s policies, rules, procedures and obligations are observed in carrying out the above duties.

Representing the Company:

  • This role is truly a “public face” of the company. It is vital that you deal courteously with customers, other road users and the public at all times and represent the company and its reputation in an impeccable manner.
  • Maintain a good level of personal appearance, dress and cleanliness.
  • A generally cheerful demeanor, engaging personality and sense of humor would be a huge advantage in making a success of this role.
  • Provide a link, at time of delivery, between the customer and the company, in the event of a change in customer requirement.

Skills & Qualities Required:

  • Good communications/interpersonal skills.
  • For vehicle insurance purposes, all applicants must be aged 25 or over.
  • Full UK Driving License, to include category C.
  • No major driving offences/disqualifications/convictions at any time.
  • No at-fault insurance claims within the preceding 5 years to declare.
  • Clean driving license preferred. Maximum of 3 penalty points on license for minor offences only.
  • Fork lift license would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving a range of goods vehicles, including 3500kg long-wheelbase panel vans.
  • Wide experience of driving in London/South East England, with good knowledge of best routes/known traffic problem areas etc. Ability to re-route around unanticipated delays and drive under initiative and common sense – not just blindly following a sat-nav.
  • Flexible and adaptable. Able to respond to short-notice changes in working hours and schedules.
  • Previous knowledge of lighting/technical equipment would be an advantage.
  • Basic IT knowledge with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Outlook/Google Workspace.
  • Numerate. Basic maths skills and arithmetic required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working on their own initiative in a constantly changing and pressurised environment and within a fast-developing company.
  • The ability to work as a member of a team and to provide and receive input to and from other team members is vital.
