We have a number of Highways Operative jobs available now for immediate start positions for reliable candidates looking for practical site work across the South West. This role will suit people who are looking to start a career in the highways industry or continue developing their current experience in construction, highways, labouring, traffic management, utilities or outdoor site work. You do not need years of experience. A positive attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are more important than formal qualifications.

Location: South West

You will work from our client's depot before travelling to different sites across the region. Due to the depot location and limited public transport, you must have a manual driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Salary: Starting pay from £14.44 per hour. Additional pay uplifts are available for antisocial hours and HGV licence holders. A working‑away-from-home allowance is also available when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn practical highways surface work and site-based operative duties

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Manual driving licence
  • Access to own vehicle
  • Comfortable driving vans
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to learn
  • Happy with practical outdoor work
  • Comfortable travelling to different sites
  • Able to stay away from home occasionally
  • Able to pass drug and alcohol tests before and during employment

  • CSCS card
  • Previous experience in highways, construction, labouring, traffic management, utilities or outdoor site work
