HGV Driver Class 1 and Class 2 (C+E and Cat C) South Devon Flexible Assignments

Driver Hire and dh Recruitment (Torbay) are looking for qualified HGV Class 1 (C+E) and Class 2 (Cat C) drivers to join our growing pool of drivers working across South Devon. Whether you are an experienced driver or have recently passed your test, we have ongoing assignments available with well-established local businesses operating across Devon and Cornwall. This is a fantastic opportunity to build a long-term driving career with variety, flexibility, and competitive pay from your very first shift.

Location: South Devon, covering Torquay, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Totnes, South Brent, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, and the surrounding areas. Routes are primarily local and regional across Devon and Cornwall. This role is site- and road-based.

Salary: £16.81 to £21.01 per hour. The salary is paid weekly every Friday through PAYE Advance, with other PAYE models available upon request. We guarantee a minimum of 8 hours per shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating Class 1 (C+E) articulated vehicles or Class 2 (Cat C) rigid vehicles on assigned routes
• Carrying out local and regional deliveries across Devon and Cornwall, including general haulage, palletised freight, trade deliveries, and retail store runs
• Completing pre-drive vehicle walkaround safety checks and reporting any defects accurately
• Maintaining delivery documentation including proof of delivery paperwork and digital tachograph records
• Assisting with loading and unloading duties at collection and delivery points where required
• Adhering to drivers' hours regulations, site rules, and client-specific health and safety procedures

The majority of routes operate on predictable schedules with early starts and regular finish times.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

• A valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (Cat C) driving licence
• A current Driver CPC qualification (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence)
• A valid Digital Tachograph card
• No more than 6 penalty points on your licence
• Reliable means of transport to reach client depot locations across South Devon
• The ability to manage early morning starts and occasional manual handling duties

Desirable but Not Essential

• Previous experience driving HGV vehicles in a commercial environment
• Familiarity with routes across Devon and Cornwall
• Experience using handheld delivery scanning devices or POD systems

Newly qualified drivers are strongly encouraged to apply. We actively support drivers who have recently passed their Class 1 or Class 2 test and want to build real-world experience.
