About the role
Driver Hire/dh Recruitment (Torbay & Barnstaple) is recruiting for an HGV Class 2 Driver Operative for a specialist line-marking and surface-treatment company working across Devon and the wider South West. This is a hands-on role that combines Class 2 HGV driving with practical outdoor site work. It would suit an experienced Category C Driver who is physically fit, comfortable working outdoors, and looking for a longer-term opportunity in a specialist industry. This is not a driving-only position. You will be part of an operational crew, driving vehicles to site and then supporting line marking and surface treatment work once you arrive.
Roles and Responsibilities
- You will be working on different sites across the region, supporting line marking and surface treatment projects.
- The work will involve a mixture of driving, loading, unloading, equipment preparation and physical site duties.
- Some projects will involve night shifts, weekend work and occasional nights away from home.
- For the right person, this role offers a temporary-to-permanent opportunity with long-term career prospects.
Duties
- Driving Class 2 HGV vehicles to and from work sites
- Supporting line marking and surface treatment operations
- Carrying out practical and physical duties on live sites
- Loading, unloading and preparing equipment
- Working safely as part of an experienced crew
- Following site procedures and health and safety requirements
- Working a mixture of day shifts and night shifts
- Staying away from home when required for operational projects
- Driving other company vehicles where your licence allows
What we are looking for
- A valid UK Category C Class 2 driving licence
- Driver CPC qualification
- Digital Tachograph Card
- A valid CSCS card
- Previous Class 2 driving experience
- Good physical fitness
- A flexible approach to working hours and locations
- Confidence working outdoors in different weather conditions
- A reliable and safety-focused attitude
- The ability to pass random drug and alcohol testing
Previous experience in highways, construction, line marking, road maintenance or surface treatment would be useful, but the most important things are reliability, flexibility and the right attitude to hands-on work.
Pay and hours
- Basic pay: £15.75 per hour
- Night shifts paid at time and a quarter
- Weekend work paid at time and a half
- 10% uplift on all hours worked while staying away from home
- Away-from-home allowance paid
- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed
- Overtime opportunities available
- Temporary to permanent opportunity for the right candidate
This role involves travel across the South West, so candidates must be comfortable working at different sites and staying away from home occasionally.
