Driver Hire Southampton are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced HVAC / Refrigeration Technician to join their busy workshop operation based in Totton. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician with HVAC/refrigeration experience to become a key part of a specialist team, ensuring high-quality cooling equipment is prepared, maintained, and ready for customer hire.
The Role
- Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor, Test Technicians, Workshop Technicians, Warehouse Team, and Depot Management, you will play a vital role in maintaining the performance and reliability of the hire fleet.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing refrigeration and cooling hire equipment ready for customer use
- Testing, cleaning, servicing, and repairing returned hire equipment
- Carrying out equipment inspections and identifying any faults or repair requirements
- Preparing additional equipment and accessories to meet specific customer orders
- Customising hire equipment to suit individual customer requirements
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Maintaining excellent housekeeping and following all Health & Safety procedures
- Supporting the workshop team to improve efficiency and deliver exceptional service
- Leading by example and contributing to a positive team environment
- The role may also involve joining an on-call rota to support emergency equipment dispatch outside of normal working hours.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and reliable individual who can bring technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic to the team. You will ideally have:
- F-Gas qualification with experience within HVAC, refrigeration, or a similar technical environment
- Previous experience working within a workshop, engineering, or production setting
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices
- The ability to organise your own workload and manage priorities effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with colleagues and management
- A flexible approach and willingness to support the wider operation
Job Details

- Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Hours: Monday to Friday (40 hours per week, working within warehouse operating hours of 07:00-19:00)
