An HGV Class 1 Driver is required for a temporary-to-permanent opportunity based in the Torbay area. This role is best suited to an experienced Class 1 Driver who is comfortable with early starts, long working days, manual handling and occasional nights away from home. The work involves local and regional deliveries to trade and direct customers.
About the role
You will be delivering goods across local and regional routes, working both independently and, at times, as part of a dual manned crew. Start times can be from around 02:00 depending on the delivery destination, so this role will suit a driver who is confident with early starts and longer days. Occasional nights out may also be required, with an overnight bonus paid for nights away. The role can involve driving different vehicles, depending on operational needs, from 3.5-tonne vehicles up to 26-tonne vehicles.
Duties
- Carry out local and regional deliveries to trade and direct customers
- Make sure loads are safely secured before leaving site
- Complete deliveries safely, professionally and on time
- Check goods with customers at delivery point
- Complete delivery paperwork accurately
- Carry out manual handling and heavy lifting where required
- Keep the vehicle clean and carry out basic roadworthiness checks
- Manage tachograph records in line with current legislation
- Follow all company health and safety procedures
- Work independently or as part of a dual-manned crew
- Undertake occasional nights out when required
What we are looking for
- Valid HGV Class 1 C+E licence
- Valid Driver’s CPC qualification
- Digital tachograph card
- Previous HGV Class 1 driving experience
- Good understanding of drivers’ hours and tachograph rules
- Confidence working independently after induction
- Reliable and flexible approach to work
- Comfortable with early starts from around 02:00
- Willingness to carry out manual handling and some heavy lifting
