An established specialist school is seeking a skilled and compassionate Teacher or HLTA to cover PPA within its dedicated pathway for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD). The role is for two terms (September 2025 – Easter 2026), covering four small classes (primarily based in one) where pupils follow a semiformal, sensory-based curriculum. The school welcomes applicants for 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs), with the flexibility to increase to full-time if desired. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are welcome to apply and will receive full support.
What You\’ll Do:

Deliver engaging, accessible lessons for pupils with SLD and complex learning needs across multiple classes, with a primary base.

Integrate sensory learning, play-based activities, and communication strategies tailored to pupils\’ individual profiles.

Use and support symbol-based communication, including visual timetables, \’now and next\’ prompts, and Makaton (training available).

Support pupils working at pre-phonics and emergent literacy/writing levels through creative, practical approaches.

Work collaboratively with class teams, therapists and leaders to ensure consistent and effective provision.

Contribute to assessments and planning by providing detailed observations and adapting resources to support progress.

Foster a calm, predictable and emotionally supportive learning environment that encourages engagement and independence.
Who We\’re Looking For:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or HLTA status with significant classroom experience.

Experience supporting pupils with SEND, ideally SLD, PMLD, ASD or complex communication needs.

A calm, flexible and resilient approach with a genuine passion for inclusive education.

Confident classroom presence and ability to adapt across classes.

Familiarity with early development frameworks and sensory/play-based learning is highly desirable.
