The Role: As a Shunter Driver, you will play a key role in the movement and positioning of trailers, containers, and vehicles within the port and operational yard. You will work closely with terminal and vessel operations teams to ensure equipment is available at the right place and at the right time to support shipping schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely move trailers and other equipment within the terminal and yard areas.
- Position trailers for loading and unloading operations.
- Carry out vehicle and equipment safety checks before use.
- Ensure all movements are completed in accordance with company procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Communicate effectively with operations, vessel, and terminal teams.
- Report any vehicle defects, incidents, or hazards promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer movements where required.
- Support the wider operations team during busy periods.
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience operating articulated vehicles, shunt vehicles, or similar equipment.
- Strong awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy operational environment.
Desirable:
- Category C+E (Class 1) licence.
- Previous experience in a port, logistics, transport, or distribution environment.
- Knowledge of trailer handling and yard management operations.
- Terminal tractor or shunter vehicle experience.
